Desktop Pictures: Lightning is a collection of 20 images to be placed on your desktop using the Desktop Picture control panel. If you are running pre-system 8, the shareware application ╥Decor╙ can enable you to display these images.

About the Images:
300,000 volts per foot (1 million volts per meter) shooting through a half-inch channel of air. The word ╥awesome╙ must have been coined watching a lightning storm. I was thrilled by lightning even as a kid. These images are variations on the theme of lightning; sort of the way a musician will explore a melody, seeing where it will go, where it will take him.
Desktop Pictures: Lightning is meant to express the awesome beauty and drama of our natural world: jagged lightning surprising the smooth flowing air.
I hope you will respond to these images as you would looking at the night sky - something to dream on.
Trialware: $10
Desktop Pictures: Lightning is trialware. If you continue to use it, please use the Register Lightning program that came with Lightning to send in your payment. The fee is $10. You can pay in any one of a variety of ways, including by credit card.
You can even send your payment by email for instant registration. Just enter the information in Register Lightning, click the "Copy" button, paste in your email program and send to sales@kagi.com.

When you are registered you will receive an email giving you a location to download 15 additional images for Lightning. Twenty (20) beautiful images to rotate on your desktop.

Putting Lightning on your Desktop:
In response to many requests, I╒ve made these images available in several monitor resolutions.
Please make sure you download the correct resolution. (You can tell which resolution you are using by opening the Monitors & Sound control panel.)
The resolutions available for downloading:
1024 x 768
1152 x 870
640 x 480
800 x 600
832 x 624
While you are there (Monitors & Sound control panel), consider setting your system to ╥millions of colors╙, if available. Thousands of colors will look good; 256 colors is probably not acceptable.
The whole Lightning folder can be dropped onto the large screen "monitor" in the Desktop Pictures control panel. If you then click Set Desktop, the images in the Lightning folder will randomly rotate on startup. I've found that sometimes you will get the same image appearing on successive startups - the system doesn╒t ╥remember╙ its previous choice; but eventually it rotates to a new one.
If the images do not appear as expected, most likely it is an issue involving your system, for which Apple technical support should be contacted - 800 767 2775.

A little more about Kagi:
Email registrations and online registrations are processed within 2 to 3 days. Kagi will send you an acknowledgment, and after processing, send you an email giving you an address to download your additional images. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days. You will also be notified by email - make sure you give a correct email address. Payments sent via postal mail take time to reach Kagi and then up to 10 days for processing. Kagi will email you when the payment is processed (again, don╒t forget to include your correct email address.)
If you pay with a credit card or First Virtual, you can email or fax the data to Kagi. Their email address is <sales@kagi.com> and their fax number is 1-510-652-6589. You can copy the data from Register and paste it into the body of an email message. If you have a fax modem, just print the data to the Kagi fax number.
You can also pay with a check. In this case you should print the data using the Register application and send it to the address shown on the form, which is:

If you have a purchasing department, you can enter all the data into the Register program and then select Invoice as your payment method. Print three copies of the form and send it to your accounts payable people. You may want to highlight the line that reminds them to include a copy of the form with their payment.
Kagi cannot invoice your company. If you need an invoice, please act on my behalf, generate the invoice and handle the paperwork on your end.

These desktop pictures are distributed as is, without any warranty or promise of technical support. These images seem to work as expected, at least on my computer, but the artist disclaims any liability of any kind for any loss of data, damages, etc. or any consequential effect.
These images are provided as-is. There is no warranty, express or implied.
These images cannot be modified in any way. You cannot resell or distribute these images without written permission. These images can only be used for their intended purpose - as desktop picture images to be viewed on your personal computer screen.
Desktop Pictures: Lightning cannot be renamed or included in another package (software, shareware collection, book, magazine,) without the artist's prior written permission. You cannot redistribute Lightning in altered form, i.e., you may not add or remove elements of the collection nor distribute any altered version of the original elements.
Lightning must be registered if you continue to use it. Once registered, you can use the images on as many computers as you like as long as you are the sole user of the software (e.g. A single person installing the images on both his / her work and home machine, for personal use.)
Alternatively, you can install the images on only one computer for use by several people.
Title, ownership rights and intellectual property rights shall remain with Ira Altschiller.
By retaining the images or making use of them, you are agreeing to the terms of this document. If you do not wish to, or cannot, comply with the terms in this document, you must destroy all copies of the images in your possession.
